Slogan Cancellations
George VI Period
1937 -1953

(Post 26)

Approximately fifty different slogans were in use during the reign of George VI. Only a few slogans were used during the pre-war and war periods. The majority of slogans were created after 1945.

It is interesting to note that during the war-years, only three slogans related to the war effort:
  • Grow More Food Dig For Victory
  • Help To Win On The Kitchen Front
  • Save Waste Paper Metal Bones Rags
In the early post-war period, we see slogans that reflect the difficult economic times:
  • Don't Waste Bread Others Need It
  • Lend A Hand On The Land
  • Save Your Waste Paper For Salvage
  • Britain Says Thank You For Food Gifts
Of course, there were occasions for celebration:

United Nations

To mark the first meetings of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council which took place in London, a United Nations slogan was used at London Post Offices from December, 1945 to January 1946.
